About Sphynx

Buster RelaxingOften described as part monkey, part child, part cat and part dog, their personality and behaviour are unlike any cat we’ve encountered before.

Once you have welcomed one of these amazing cats into your home rest assured your life will never be the same again. You’ve been “sphynxed”.

Although they give the impression of being hairless they have soft, fine down covering their body which is almost imperceptible to the eye. The breed standard allows short, soft, fine hair to extend to the ears, muzzle, feet and tail. The degree of nakedness varies from one cat to another from those that are “sticky-bald” to being “fuzzy”. Their skin is very warm to the touch and feels like a warm peach or suede.

Other distinctive features of a Sphynx cat are the large ears, well padded feet, large lemon shaped eyes and their enigmatic wrinkles.

Sphynx cats come in all variety of colours and patterns along with differing eye colours too, even odd coloured eyes.

Here at Wrynkleskyns we do not breed to produce a specific eye or coat colour, focussing instead on health, type and temperament.

Purr-sonality

Thumnail1The Sphynx are as different in personality as they are in looks. They can only be described as “in your face”. Extremely confident, curious and intelligent, acrobatic and agile and with boundless energy, this is not a cat for the faint hearted.

They will involve themselves with whatever you are doing, insisting on helping with each and every task you undertake whether it be surfing the net, watching the TV, washing the dishes and forget trying to do the ironing in the same room ever again.

They are extremely loving, loyal and affectionate with all members of the household, human or animal.

Despite their lack of hair, they are not “hypo-allergenic” cats, depending on your allergy you may still react to a Sphynx cat. However, some allergy sufferers find they can live problem free with a Sphynx, I recommend you discuss your allergy with the breeder, visit the cattery and spend time with their cats on numerous occasions to assess your reactions.
